        The Laboratoired\u2019Excellence Labex SIGNALIFE <\/b><\/h2>\n

        welcomes 45 international students <\/b><\/h2>\n

        at the University Nice Sophia Antipolis<\/b><\/h2>\n

        The scientific project focuses on cell signaling to better understand how living cells communicate under normal and pathological conditions. At the core of the program is a top level, selective PhD training program, which aims to recruit some of the best French and foreign PhD students and to ultimately create a campus of excellence on cell signaling. The international PhD program is affiliated to the Graduate School for Health and Life Sciences at the University Nice Sophia Antipolis. In addition to the research project undertaken in the SIGNALIFE research teams, the students will receive interdisciplinary training, participate to international exchanges and be exposed to comprehensive range of extracurricular activities to complete the training of highest quality PhD researchers (scientific writing and presentation skills, research management\u2026)<\/p>\n

        Each year a call for applications to recruit new SIGNALIFE PhD students will be distributed among international research institutes of highest standing all over the world. 360 applications were received for this first call for applications. After evaluation of the candidates and stringent selection, some 50 international students have been pre-selected.<\/p>\n

        The selected students were invited to a two day on-site visit on the Valrose Campus, on June 14th<\/sup> and 15th<\/sup>, 2013. They were interviewed by 32 Researchers from 6 institutes, who are affiliated to UNS and participate in the labex SIGNALIFE (Institut de BiologieValrose: iBV, Institut de PharmacologieMol\u00e9culaireetCellulaire: IPMC, Institut de Recherche sur le Cancer et le Vieillissement Nice: IRCAN, Centre M\u00e9diterran\u00e9en de M\u00e9decineMol\u00e9culaire: C3M, Institut Sophia Agrobiotech: ISA, and Inria Sophia Antipolis-M\u00e9diterran\u00e9e Research Center).<\/p>\n

        On the program for those two days were the presentation of the SIGNALIFE project and the PhD program by Andreas Schedl and Robert Arkowitz (directors of the SIGNALIFE EducationCommittee), scientific presentations by each student held in the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Grand Ch\u00e2teau on the Valrose campus and individual interviews with the researchers. The students and researchers continued their discussions over dinner at the Maison du S\u00e9minaire in Nice.<\/p>\n

        The on-site visit was a great success. UNS and the participating teams had a chance to present what they have to offer to the students, and at the same time 20 highly qualified future PhD students were selected for the first installment of the SIGNALIFE PhD program starting in September 2013.<\/p>\n

        SIGNALIFE est un r\u00e9seau d\u2019excellence de 49 \u00e9quipes de recherche de la r\u00e9gion Nice Sophia Antipolis soutenues par l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Nice Sophia Antipolis, le CNRS, l\u2019Inserm, l\u2019INRA, l\u2019Inria et impliquant le Centre Anti Cancer A. Lacassagne et le CHU de Nice. G\u00e9r\u00e9 par l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Nice Sophia Antipolis et coordonn\u00e9 le Dr St\u00e9phane Noselli, le budget attribu\u00e9 \u00e0 ce r\u00e9seau de recherche et innovation est de 11 millions d\u2019euros sur 8 ans.<\/p>\n

        Le projet scientifique porte sur la signalisation cellulaire dont l\u2019enjeu est de mieux comprendre comment les cellules vivantes communiquent entre elles en conditions normales et pathologiques.
        \nLe c\u0153ur de ce programme est bas\u00e9 sur une formation universitaire de tr\u00e8s haut niveau avec le recrutement s\u00e9lectif d\u2019\u00e9tudiants doctorants fran\u00e7ais et \u00e9trangers et la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019un campus d\u2019excellence sur la Signalisation Cellulaire. Ce programme de PhD international est affili\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019Ecole Doctorale Science de la Vie et de la Sant\u00e9 de l\u2019UNS. En plus de stages de recherche dans les \u00e9quipes SIGNALIFE, les \u00e9tudiants recevront une formation interdisciplinaire, effectueront des stages pratiques \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger ainsi que des activit\u00e9s permettant le d\u00e9veloppement professionnel de scientifiques de haut niveau (\u00e9criture de projets et d\u2019articles, communication scientifique, management de la recherche, etc.).<\/p>\n

        Le recrutement des \u00e9tudiants SIGNALIFE s\u2019effectue chaque ann\u00e9e \u00e0 travers un appel d\u2019offre large \u00e0 destination des meilleurs instituts de biologie internationaux sur tous les continents. Dans ce cadre, le premier appel d\u2019offre a permis de recevoir 360 dossiers qui ont fait l\u2019objet d\u2019une \u00e9valuation s\u00e9v\u00e8re aboutissant \u00e0 une pr\u00e9s\u00e9lection de 50 \u00e9tudiants internationaux.
